Deccan Herald » State » Detailed Story
It isnt IT, that's realty!
By Subrahmanyan Viswanath, DH News Service, Bangalore:
BangaloreIT.in has taken a realty turn. Yes, literally and figuratively. The premier IT show's tenth edition currently here, has turned more into an IT infrastructure mela than the chip and bytes affair.

Though billed an industry initiative, the IT Capital’s crown jewels, and other marquee players in the sector, have apparently thumbed their noses at the show. The absence of notable names from IT Inc sadly gives away the tall official claims about industry participation.

Not that there is void of sorts at the show. Stepping into the available space are a host of realty firms which have pitched camp eyeing possible business.

With hi-tech and cyber parks and cities, IT integrated townships and IT-related special economic zones hogging the headlines, IT is all about realty as well.

Showcasing their prestigious projects to woo prospective IT firms are Mantri Realty from Nagpur, Adarsh Realty from Bangalore, Ansals Realty from Delhi and Mayatas Properties from Hyderabad, to name a few.

Having completed the first phase of its SEZ spread over 2.5 million sq ft of land, Adarsh Realty has taken up the second phase for developing another 3 million sq ft of land. It is also developing two new Shangri La Hotels in Bangalore for Asia Pacific Luxury Hotel Group at an investment of Rs 250 crore.

Mayatas Properties Private Ltd is developing three SEZs in Andhra Pradesh. Ansals Realty is developing SEZs in Lucknow, Greater Noida in JV with HDFC and Gurgaon in JV with ILFS. Mantri Realty is developing six IT parks at an investment of Rs 1,300 crore at Nagpur, Sangli, Kolhapur, Solapur, Nanded and Latur.

Asked about their presence in a pure-play IT event, realty officials told Deccan Herald that it provides them a perfect platform to conduct business to business meetings with prospective clients. Of course, absence of adequate footfalls has played a dampener.

However, they said mere participation in the show, helps them get in touch with IT companies looking out for new campuses and space. Plus, word of mouth publicity helps further business prospects, they added.
