Addressing a press conference in Bangalore, Mr Siddaramaiah stated that he met Mr Prakash only to warn him of threat from Deve Gowda. “Mr Deve Gowda has harmed the political career of many leaders and I wanted to warn Prakash of that. But much importance has been attached to the meeting. Is Prakash a political novice to listen to my advice on breaking the JD(S)? Should I disclose the names of all those leaders whom Deve Gowda has met or tried to meet ? For the last one year Mr Gowda has been trying for an appointment with Sonia Gandhi, but she did not yield. I never stoop to the level of Deve Gowda to divide any party. There is no need for anyone to try to break the JD(S), because it would get annihilated on its own weakness very soon”, he remarked.
Party not at fault
Describing Mr Deve Gowda as ‘Adhunika Bhasmasura’, Mr Siddaramaiah accused him of having destroyed the career of many leaders in a bid to further the interest of his own sons -Revanna and Kumaraswamy.
“Prakash will be the last victim. In future, nobody will fall victim because by now every one has come to know Gowda’s true colours”, he asserted.
Mr Siddaramaiah also refuted the allegation that the Congress had tried to break the JD(S).
“Deve Gowda is levelling these false allegations because he is feeling guilty. Since beginning his political career in 1962, Deve Gowda has indulged in party-breaking activity.”
“There cannot be a worst opportunist politician than Deve Gowda in the whole Indian history ”, he alleged.
Blaming Mr Deve Gowda for the present political instability in the State, Mr Siddaramaiah contended the Congress cannot be faulted for this. “The legislators have been held hostage. Does it not amount to horse-trading or coercion? In these circumstances should the Governor allow formation of an alternate government?”, he wondered.
‘Dissolve Assembly’
Earlier at a separate press conference, former KPCC President Janardhan Poojary sought immediate dissolution of the Assembly on the ground that both BJP and JD(S) cannot give a stable government.
Mr Poojary felt that no expert legal opinion was needed on the formation of an alternate government in the State.
“If these parties go to Supreme Court, it will pass a stricture against them”, he opined.
Heavily coming down upon both BJP and JD (S) for committing a “constitutional fraud”, Mr Poojary asserted that in no other state such a “shameful political drama” had taken place.
Mr Poojary made a scathing attack on Mr Deve Gowda and Mr Yeddyurappa for trying to resurrect a government. “What explanation do you offer to your grand-children if they question your decisions? History will not pardon you”, he observed.
