City’s Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens lost one of its very special members on Tuesday. Known as ‘Honey’, the giraffe which was one of the main zoological attractions since last 19 yrs, died in the early hours on Tuesday.
Director of the Zoo Vijay Ranjan Singh, ‘Honey’ which lived its full life span of 20 years was brought from Germany in 1987. The legend giraffe who gave birth for eight calves so for was suffering from tuberculosis for the last few years. It breathed its last at around 4 am.
Out of Honey’s eight calves, two are dead, one was sent to Thiruvanantapuram Zoo and the rest are inmates of Mysore Zoo. ‘Honey’ with its long neck and brownish body with black dots drew lakhs of visitors. It was cremated as per the instructions issued by the veterinary doctors.
