The High Court on Tuesday ordered issue of notices to Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, State Public Works department and National Highway Authority of India on a PIL seeking repair and maintenance of the national highway passing through Shiradi Ghat section, between Sakleshpur and BC Road.
The petition, filed by Sadashiva Rao of Kadri, Mangalore, Dakshina Kannada district, said NH-48 passing through Shiradi Ghat section was completely damaged and had been closed while providing diversion to alternate roads at Madikeri and Chamadi. Due to this, transport vehicles as well as people travelling between Mangalore and Bangalore have been suffering, the petition stated.
Committee
The petitioner sought the court to direct authorities to carry out repairs before March 2008 by concreting the Ghat section and constitute an expert committee, including specialists from Indian Institute of Science, to monitor the road works.
The division Bench comprising Chief Justice Cyriac Joseph and Justice Ashok B Hinchigeri admitted the petition, while ordering notices to respondent authorities.
No approval
Another PIL by Nagaraja, a Bangalore-based advocate, sought the High Court to quash the education
department’s action in directing approval of admissions made during 2006-07 by some private D Ed training institutions without approval from National Council of Teacher Education.
Illegal
He sought the court to declare as illegal Primary and Secondary Education department’s order directing approval of admissions made by certain institutions without NCTE approval.
The division Bench headed by Chief Justice adjourned the matter while granting time for the petitioner to implead beneficiary institutions as respondents in the case.
