Speaking at a function organised by the Revenue Department to provide title deeds to the poor who have encroached on government land in Bangalore urban district including Bangalore City, Mr Kumaraswamy regretted that even 60 years after independence, many families were shelterless in the State.
“While we allow the rich to encroach upon government land, we demolish the shed put up by a poor fellow. The bureaucrats should not heed the words of politicians who try to protect the land mafia; they have a bigger role to play and in the next two-three years, they should ensure that no family is left without a site or house in the State”, he stated.
Appealing to the people who received title deeds today not to dispose of their property and again try to encroach upon government land elsewhere, Mr Kumaraswamy called for enacting a legislation to award jail sentence to those who repeatedly encroach upon government land.

Deputy Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa wondered why the people had to wait till the coalition government came to power to get their title deeds.
Bangalore Urban District Deputy Commissioner M A Sadiq said that 17,100 people would be given title deeds. “We have taken steps to get nearly 10,000 properties registered also”, he added.
