Want to copy your favourite webpages to hard disk? Give PageNest the address of a website and it will copy either the page, or the entire site to your hard disk. It can create an exact copy of what you see on the internet including html, images and css.
PageNest helps create a ‘cache’ of your pages for browsing them offline. PageNest provides a fast multithreaded downloading engine to help download up to forty files, at once. This can helps to make the best use of your connection (particularly, if it is slow) and make the downloads as quick as possible. The easy to use PageNest has many other unique features.
For example, the clickable list of recent downloads, buttons to move between sites in a single click, and a range of sensible defaults so you rarely need to change many settings. Websites can be browsed either within PageNest or from a browser.
Because they are ordinary files, you can, copy them to a laptop and take them with you to view when you are far away from an internet connection. You can also set PageNest to automatically dial a connection and hang up afterwards.
PageNest is the free version of the highly successful commercial offline browser WebStripper, sans some of the more advanced features. The 1.8 MB PageNest v3.00 is compatible with Windows Vista, XP, 2000, Me and 98, can be downloaded at http://pagenest.com/pagenestfree.exe. This free edition is available for non-commercial use – it can be used in the home, or by schools and non-profit organisations.
ClearType Tuner
With Windows XP, ClearType delivers improved font display quality over traditional forms of font smoothing or anti-aliasing. It improves readability on colour LCD displays with a digital interface, such as those in laptops and high-quality flat panel displays.
Readability on CRT screens can also be improved. ClearType is the name of a Microsoft Windows technology, a form of subpixel rendering for text. It was introduced with Windows XP. ClearType is applied only to text that is rendered as such by user and system applications. For example, text in Microsoft Word will be rendered on the screen with
ClearType enhancement, but text placed in a bitmapped image in a program such as Adobe Photoshop will not be modified. This is important because the ClearType technology is extremely specific to text rendering on certain types of computer displays; it would not be useful and could even degrade perceived image quality if it were applied in any other circumstances.
ClearType does not affect text stored in files. It only applies any processing to the text while it is being rendered onto the screen. ClearType does not work with flat-panel displays that are operated at resolutions other than their “native” resolutions, since only the native resolution corresponds exactly to the actual positions of pixels on the screen of the display. PDF Cropper
Sometimes PDF documents like CAD drawings, or posters, have excessive white space around the actual image or around the intended drawing border. This occurs when a page size is selected that is larger than the actual document. Sometimes the needed page size is not available as the designer, perhaps, doesn’t know how to make a custom size one.
This is usually an acceptable practice for HPGL2 plot files as most plot devices and supporting software automatically ignore the white space.
But, in the case of PDF files it is cumbersome, annoying and sometimes even problematic, especially when the output must be enlarged, because in that case the white space is enlarged as well. Also, it is often difficult to position the image on paper, and this does involve extra work for manual trimming and folding.
This new (August 2007) automatic cropper is based on iTextSharp and uses GhostScript to find the “inked area” (as it is called for the HP plotters). This tool also does multipage PDF’s and even lets you crop all pages of multipage documents to the minimum common imaged size. GhostScript and .NET 2.0 are required. Absolute Shutdown
Windows waits, usually for a long time, for programs, processes and services to close/stop before actually shutting down. If you want Windows to shut down or reboot quickly run this program once, and after a reboot Windows will shut down and reboot much faster.
The program changes the settings Windows use for closing/stopping programs and services. You can delete the program after use. The 709 KB Absolute Shutdown for Windows 2000/Windows XP can be downloaded at
