After spending ten years abroad, I was determined to come back to India for good. My love for this city, where I spent all my childhood and college days, is beyond expression.
But, on my return, everything shocked me – The bad roads, the angry mob honking to deafen the ears, the uncouth cabs overtaking from all sides, the arrogant auto fellows who rush just pushing the front wheel of their autos and above all the maharajas of Bangalore city: BMTC bus drivers.
I asked a question to myself – Is the chaos because of the condition of the roads or is it because of the people who use it? The roads are below standards, but even worse is the behavior of the people. Road discipline is missing in us and none of us want to change our attitudes. I started my day happily here, thinking I am a change agent sent to save the situation.
Patiently waiting for the signal, I was being pushed out of the lane by honking heroes who want to reach don’t know where?
I was incredibly tolerant and ignored the initial attacking of my fellowmen on the roads. Steadfast in my dreams to set an example, I started another day to be banged by a two wheeler rider – greater than Michael Schumacher at speed.
Grinning at my new car, the rider impolite was out of sight. Unable to get down to check the extent of the damage to the car due to traffic congestion, I was forced to drive to my workplace at last to check that a dent was made not only in the car but also in my heart.
I left office that day in despair and frustrated to see people behaving mad on the roads. Yet, I maintained my cool to take a chill pill. Just then, a speeding cab displaying the number (If the driver is rash please don’t call anyone!!), overtook me from left and pushing me to the extreme right to almost hit another impatient industrialist’s car. I lost my cool and blew my top on the road with all my accumulated energy.
Crowd gathered. Some ignored me, while everything seem to be normal as I yelled and screamed. Yes, I realised that to be a part of this world, I have to flock with them. Is anybody there who can stop for a while and think?
