International furniture fair

One of the fastest growing economies (at 8.5%) and, with the highest level of investor optimism, India is also the second largest FDI destination, overtaking the USA, 4th largest in purchasing power parity (PPP) and, offering higher rate of returns and profitability than anywhere else in the world.

The construction industry, ranked 12th in the world, is experiencing maximum growth and in turn, has created an explosive demand for furniture and allied products.

The size of the Indian furniture industry is estimated to be approximately Rs 350 billion and growing at over 20% per annum. Furniture imports have touched an all-time high though, it must be said that manufacturing will be the key.

Increased demand for furniture must logically mean growth in the manufacturer base. There is no better place to accurately assess the trends of this vibrant sector than, at a focussed industry meet.

Mr Khan, Group President, Universal Expositions Group, said the Universal Expositions was planning to enter the southern market at the earliest, at Chennai or Bangalore, to be conducted in alternate years by 2008. There will also be a symposium where leading designers from Italy will be visiting India to exchange ideas with leading Indian designers. This expo will attract a crowd of 30 – 40,000 visitors with an approximate of 250 crore business to be generated.

The Index International Furniture Fair, scheduled from October 18 to 22, 2007, at the Bombay Exhibition Centre, Goregaon (E), Mumbai, is the single most important event for the furniture industry in the country. This is the 8th edition of this benchmark event, held annually in association with KoelnMesse GmbH, organisers of IMM Cologne and INTERZUM.

Index Fairs provide the ideal business platform for all types of finished furniture for home, office and commercial spaces, home lighting, bath accessories, furnishing, furniture hardware and furniture intermediates. The best of world furniture, lighting, kitchen and bath, furniture hardware and other lifestyle products will be on display.

With participation of over 50 brands from Italy showcasing the best in furniture, lighting and furnishing, as well as well-known brands from Germany, Brazil, China, Malaysia, Taiwan and Thailand, this event is a ‘must visit’ for architects, builders, interior designers, project consultants, as well as anyone who is investing in a project or property and looking at doing up the interiors.

Held concurrently, will be the prestigious Mostra Design Exhibition, an expression of pure design, organized by the Government of Italy.
