6 killed in multiple collision

Six persons were killed on the spot and 16 suffered serious injuries in a multiple collision near Saladoddi gate on Kanakapura Main road in Talaghattapura police station limits in Bangalore Rural limits in the wee hours of Thursday.

The police said that an empty truck, which was proceeding to Laxmipura near Kanakapura collided head on with a Tata Sumo. A luggage van which was behind the Tata Sumo also dashed against the truck around 2.30 am.
Tata Sumo driver Basavaraju (23) and his assistant Muruli (24) and Gaudappa (24), Marappa (50), Mallappa (45) and Radeppa (20), who were in the luggage van, were killed on the spot.  The occupants of the luggage van were returning home in Konanakunte. They were construction workers from Gulbarga district.
The police said six persons, all residents of Hariharnagar in Ganapathipura, were returning in the Tata Sumo after attending a late night party.

Soon after the accident, the lorry driver fled from the scene. The police shifted the injured to Sanjay Gandhi Hospital and Nimhans.
Talking to media persons, a few locals demanded that speed brakers should be put near Saladoddi gate as accident occur regularly on the road.

Eyewitness account
V Jyotish, a Salagoddi Gate resident and a businessman, said he rushed there on hearing a loud noise. He found many people lying in a pool of blood. First aid was given at Sri Ravi Shankar ashram. 
"The truck driver had consumed liquor. The incident occurred when the irresponsible driver took a turn. The impact was such that the truck turned upside down twice and then rammed into the tempo," he added.
