The school playground was seized by the Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB) and was handed over to Suzlon Company. On gaining occupancy over the land, the company instantaneously started work on the same land. Soon, several organisations and school committee decided to stage a protest to stop the progress of any work on this land.
An area of 0.58 cents of land was set aside by Kundapur Assistant Commissioner in the year 1992-93 for putting up a school building and directed that the remaining land must be utilised as playground for the children.
But the company clandestinely took over the playground and started work on the same land.
The company dug a 14-feet deep ditch on the ground, which was posing threat and causing inconvenience to the school children. The matter was soon brought to the notice of Deputy Commissioner V Ponnuraj who was urged by the local residents and the school committees to save the playground. Intervening into the matter, Mr V Ponnuraj asked the company to vacate the playground. Accordingly, the company has filled up the ditch about two weeks ago bringing back the smiles on the faces of the students who have been living their childhood playing happily on the same ground.
