Bridges on Shiradi Ghat a threat to commuters
Uppinangady, DHNS:
When the condition of NH 48 on Shiradi Ghat is still wretched, the situation of bridges on the same stretch is much more severe. Most of them are being deteriorated, while many have already lost their parts.

There are more that 25 bridges on the NH stretch between Uppinangady and Maranahalli. Particularly, the Shiradi Ghat area beginning from Gundya has 21 bridges and curves. Most of them are in a bad condition, counting their last moments.

The bridges said to have constructed in between 1910 and 1920, have crossed their specified life span, which appear to be spending the days striking danger bells. The slabs in most of the bridges have deteriorated and big craters have been created. In some other instances, the adjoining point of road and bridges have witnessed splits.

Especially, Anegundi bridge, Ettinahalla bridge, Barchinahalla bridge and Kootelu bridges are posing danger to the travellers.

Accident zone
A recent joint survey report of Revenue Department and Transport department has registered that most of the bridges are unscientific. The report has identified 13 bridges and curves between Mani and  Shiradi Ghat as accident zones. The district administration has reportedly drawn the attention of the government towards this report, but what happened to that is still a secret.

The government and N H departments need to attend the requirements here urgently if they have to avoid the potential fatalities in a larger scale.
