Except a few old faces, most of the members were new to the TMC, and their first meet was led by MLA C T Ravi. “Parties are only in elections. When it comes to the after-election scenario, all are of ‘development party’ for the sake of the progress of the City,” Mr Ravi clarified in the beginning of the meet, earlier to which he congratulated the newly elected members.
“As an MLA, I will be always with you to transform the city into a model one. We need not have a ‘tour culture’ during the election of president and vice-president. Let all oppose the tour culture that humiliates the voters who elect their representatives with all respect. Let us try for unanimous elections being amidst our voters.
If unanimous selection is not possible for ideological reasons, lets face elections in a democratic way. Let us attend the serious problems like underground drainage and drinking water supply,” the MLA said for which all assembled members gave a silent nod.
He said he had met Karnataka Sewage and Water Supply Board Managing Director Ramamurthy and Urban Development Department Principal Secretary Subhashchandra recently regarding an underground drainage system for the city. They have assured that the process of implementation would be started once the technical process was completed as the project had already been sanctioned, the MLA informed.
Budget has been allotted for the drinking water system. Three overhead tanks have been constructed with an expenditure of Rs 10 lakh each, he said.
There are 31 new members and 4 old faces in the TMC. Everybody should do at least one good work for their ward in a year. Development of parks, greenery, beautification should be given importance with the private participation. Transparency and timeliness should be maintained the TMC projects. We will discuss about working unitedly without having any ideological differences for the implementation of all projects, Mr Ravi told reporters.
To a query that whether it is an idea to avoid the total concept of Opposition party, he said he was going to test with a new experiment.
“I am experiment-oriented. I don’t feel bad if it fails. I am confident that at least one will succeed out of 10 experiments,” he observed.
