Whatmore in line for NCA job
Dav Whatmore may have failed to bag the Team India coach’s job but the Sri Lanka-born Australian now has an offer from the BCCI to take over as the Director Operations at the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore, reports PTI from New Delhi.

The new NCA Chairman Ravi Shastri is in touch with Whatmore BCCI said in a statement.

Rs 25 lakh cash award for Anand
The Tamil Nadu Government on Friday announced a cash award of Rs 25 lakh to the newly-crowned world chess champion Viswanathan Anand, reports PTI from Chennai.

Congratulating the champion for the victory, chief minister M Karunanidhi granted the cash prize on behalf of the Government, it added. The Chief Minister also awarded cash awards to the tune of Rs 96.05 lakh to 28 sports persons who had won medals in last year’s Commonwealth games in Melbourne and South Asian Games held in Colombo.

Ashutosh, Isha triumph
Local favourite Ashutosh Singh and defending champion Isha Lakhani won the men’s and women’s singles title respectively of the DSCL Open National tennis championships, reports PTI from New Delhi.

Asuthosh beat Prajnesh Gunneswaran 6-4, 7-6 (7-4), while Maharashtra’s Lakhani outplayed Tamil Nadu’s Rushmi Chakravarthi 6-4, 6-1. Prajnesh, however won the U-18 boys title beating Chandigarh’s Vijayant Malik 6-3, 6-2.

Karnataka lads go down to UP
Uttar Pradesh came back from a two goal deficit to beat Karnataka in a tie-breaker and earn a spot in the decider with West Bengal in the 30th Sub-Junior (under-16) football championship on Friday, reports PTI from Haldwani.
Uttar Pradesh prevailed 4-3 in the shootout after the match was locked 3-3 in open play.

Rakesh Roy, M Sridhar and Anwar Hussain found the net for Karnataka in the regulation time while Satish Kumar, Kamaluddin Khan and Biru Yadav struck for Uttar Pradesh.

In the other semifinal, West Bengal defeated Punjab by a solitary goal scored by Sajal Dasin the 18th minute.
  The final is slated for October 7.

Orissa eves make goal mayhem
In a record of sorts, Orissa rained in 42 goals without reply against Tripura in a league match of the 37th Junior women’s National hockey championship, reports UNI from Gwalior.

Delhi joined the goal torrent in the day with a 28-0 victory over Vidarbha with Monika scoring 10 times.      
In the other matches, Himachal Pradesh  drubbedJammu and Kashmir 27-0 and Tamil Nadu mauled Bhopal 22-0 while Haryana thrashed Chandigarh 15-2.

Klusener hits out at CSA
Former all-rounder Lance Klusener has hit out at Cricket South Africa for threatening to ban him from the domestic matches to prevent him from playing the ICL, reports PTI from Durban.

“It’s a crazy decision. It would deprive the young players here of my input, whether on the field or through coaching,” he said.

Kaka is World   Player of the Year
AC Milan forward Kaka was named FIFPro World Player of the Year for inspiring his side to a seventh European Cup win in May, reports Reuters from Milan.
