The High Court on Friday confirmed the life sentence imposed on a man who had killed his wife by assaulting her with a sickle.
The Division Bench comprising Justice V G Sabhahit and Justice R B Naik confirmed the Mysore sessions court’s order of conviction and life sentence imposed on Chikkamadasetty of Thottavadi village in Mysore district for murdering his wife Mahadevamma.
However, the Bench set aside his conviction under the charge of attempting to murder his father-in-law and convicted him under the penal provisions relating to assault. He was sentenced to five years imprisonment under this charge.
On July 7, 2002, Chikkamadasetty had allegedly assaulted Mahadevamma with a sickle, and later, had assaulted his father-in-law, who had witnessed the offence.
It was alleged that he was upset that his father-in-law had taken back two bullocks given to him earlier, for selling them to raise money for his mother-in-law’s treatment.
