College holds interactive session with ISRO scientist
DH News Service, Mangalore:

The Astro Club of St Aloysius college along with the Association of Physics Teachers of Mangalore University (APTMU) organised an interactive seminar to commemorate the golden jubilee of satellite launching. Head of GEOSAT at Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) Dr Aravind Kumar spoke on the Indian Space Programme on the occasion.

He elaborated on various achievements of ISRO and the various uses of satellites.

The seminar ended with a video presentation of the launch of the first satellite Sputnik, followed by a student- scientist interactive session. An exhibition of the miniature models of various satellites and launch vehicles was also held as part of the seminar.

Earlier in the inaugural session, College Principal Fr Swebert D’Silva spoke on the usefulness of satellites in the fields of communication, military and others. He urged the students to be quick in grasping the advances in technology and launch themselves in a different orbit for a better future.

Dr Aravind Kumar distributed prizes to the winners of the sky watch programme organised by the Astro Club.
Vice Principal Prof Ronald Pinto, Secretary Roy Rebello, Astro Club Director Prof Narayana Bhat and others were present on the occasion.
