Karnataka State Police were held to a goalless draw by Army Service Corps in a lacklustre encounter in the BDFA Super Division league at the Bangalore Football stadium here on Saturday.
It was the Cops’ third draw in seven games, taking their tally to 12 points, while the promoted ASC now have five points from five matches.
Apart from the initial burst from both teams, the first half was a totally dull affair. In that fifteen minutes or so, KSP looked like the team most likely to score. However, Archan shot straight to ASC custodian Kannan in the fifth minute before an attempted cross, that came goalward, from the right by Karthigen was tipped over the bar by Kannan.
The break produced some momentum from the Cops as they created more openings. But they were deprived of a winner by poor finishing from their forwards. KSP’s Senthil Kumar cross from the right was missed by Pradeep B V and Venkatesh upfront when only a goalward direction was needed.
However, ASC’s Dinda should have done better in the 48th minute while pouncing on a loose ball inside the penalty area but he shot straight to KSP goalie Nagendra.
The ASC goal then survived some close shaves in the final few minutes. Santosh kept ASC in the match with a goalline save in the 80th minute after Karthigen’s (KSP) header off a Sameer Ahmed cornerkick from the right .
Earlier, a hat-trick from Magesh (53rd, 67th, 78th) helped Dharmaraja Union edge Hindustan Machine Tools 3-2 in the ‘A’ Division tie. Vikram (24th) and Clarence (81st) found the target for HMT.
Sunday’s matches: ‘A’ Division: Tilak Memorial vs Universal, 1.45 pm; Super Division: BEML (EM) vs LRDE, 3.45 pm.
