The city lacks many basic amenities such as scarcity of drinking water, street lights, and others for the improvement of which the CMC has to accept donations from the Donors, demanded some of the Congress members and Independents and submitted a memorandum to Deputy Commissioner G Ramachandra on Monday.
They also accused MLA Srinivas Gowda for obstructing the development of drinking water and other developmental works under the limits of Kolar CMC.
The members demanded that Mr Varthur Prakash has been doing a great job by helping the city to improve and has been giving donations which the CMC has to accept, as very less grants has been released by the government or the CMC for the purpose, they added.
The submission of memorandum comes from DC’s order, that in order to dig borewells, install street lights and other developmental works a prior permission has to be sought from the CMC, else stringent action will be taken against them.
The DC had also said that a prior permission from the CMC has to be taken in order to install sodium lights at Gandhi Nagar which was proposed by member Rajesh.
When the members said that the DC has to allow to dug borewells since Ramzan is drawing nearer, and that water scarcity being a common problem everyday in many areas, however, the DC refused the offer and assured that the CMC would take suitable steps to supply drinking water.
Inspite of the persistent demands of the members that the CMC has to accept the social donations, the DC stressed that it was very important that a prior permission be sought from CMC.
Suspended City Block Congress President Afroz Pasha, District Congress Committee Spokesperson K V Suresh Kumar, former president of CMC C Raghuram, newly-elected Independents to CMC and some Congress members and others were also present.
