Revanna and Rahukala
Minister for PWD and Energy H D Revanna is known for his strong-faith in astrology. He would not begin any work without consulting his astrologer. Recently he went to Hassan along with his chief minister-brother H D Kumaraswamy. The chopper, in which they travelled, hovered in air for almost five minutes before landing at the designated place. Officers were disturbed for a few minutes thinking that the chopper must have developed a technical snag.
They heaved a sigh of relief after the chopper landed safely. By the time it landed it was 12.01 pm. News spread that Mr Revanna himself avoided chopper’s landing before 12 noon as the time between 10.30 am to 12 noon was Rahukala, considered to be inauspicious, on that day.
A day after his visit to Hassan, Mr Revanna met the press in Vidhana Soudha in Bangalore. Journalists asked about chopper’s delay. The minister brushed-off reports that landing was delayed due to Rahukala. He said, the pilot was a fresher. He spent a few minutes in the sky to get acquainted with aerial view in Hassan!

FM music to bullocks’ ears
Can you guess who likes FM Channels the most and who is utilising FM Radio Channels in the most professional way?
There can be several answers and quite possibly all of them may be based on guessing but the learned Director of Multimedia Research Centre at Mysore University A Balasubramanian’s observations seems to be an outcome of a deep study.
During his speech at the round table conference on media education on Saturday at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Balasubramanian while narrating about the latest advent in multimedia technology said, the farmers are using FM Radio in the best possible way. Farmers hang the radio transistor to the bullocks horns and the field is ploughed with little effort.
Mr Balasubramanian may be saying that the music aired by the FM Channels are good stuff for cattle!!

Bites and Bytes Day!
This morning when you start planning for the day, little you would be knowing that it is a World Suicide (Prevention) Day, observed on September 10. The Medico-Pastoral Association, a centre for mental health care, has great plans for this day.
As the trend has begun to give tag to each day of the year, September 10 fell nemesis to the self-destructive persons. Just two days ago, when the world was celebrating International Literacy Day, it was also the ‘World Rabies’ Day’ on September 8.
As the International Literacy Day and World Rabies’ Day fell on the same day, a comment came, “This day should be known as ‘Bites and Bytes’!”

Taste of one’s own medicine
BJP National Vice-President M Venkaiah Naidu at a recent press conference went all out against the Congress for setting up a committee to address concerns raised by Left parties on the Indo-US nuclear deal and termed it as as “diversionary tactics”.
“It is not a family or private affair between the Congress and the Left,” he said and in his inimitable style advised the Congress to “either make-up, patch-up” with the Left or “pack-up.”
After his attack on the Centre, the media asked Mr Naidu about the affairs in the state.
“Is not your make-up, patch-up or pack-up formula applicable to the political scenario in the state,” asked a scribe referring to the confusion over the power transfer between the coalition partners.
An aggressive Mr Naidu immediately went into the defensive and ducked several queries on why the BJP was not responding to the adverse statements made by JD(S) against the party.
Well, call it a taste of one’s own medicine !.

More such police officers needed
Normally there will be a long queue outside the office of DCP (Crime) B R Ravikanthe Gowda every day with many seeking ‘justice.’ When this reporter was interviewing him a few days back, an elderly women said that a man had cheated her to the tune of Rs 2 lakh.
“I approached police, but nothing happened. I have seen you several times on television. Many people told me that if I meet you, I will get justice. Sir, do something I need my money back as I am poor,” she begged with folded hands.
Gowda replied, “You are like my mother. You need not worry. I will try to help you within legal frame work.”
After coming outside the women told this reporter, “There are still honest officers in police department. I don’t know if I will get justice, but the way in which he treated me is noble. Let there be more number of such police officers.”
