Police have arrested a student for raping a minor girl belonging to Dalit community at Gangavara village near here on Saturday.
On the lines of a complaint filed by the girl’s mother, Shanivarasanthe Police Sub-Inspector Prakash Gowda arrested the accused and produced him before the court.
“When the 13-year-old girl had been to a shop to get a match box, the shop owner’s son, a student of Shanivarasanthe First Grade College G R Shanmugappa committed rape on her and threatened her of killing if she revealed the incident to others,” the girls’s mother alleged in the complaint.
Though the incident was said to have taken place on Thursday itself, the parents of the student had concluded after discussing with the villagers that they would compensate the incident by giving Rs 1,000 and reimbursing the hospital expenses.
However, unconvinced by the ‘agreement,’ the girl’s mother filed a police complaint on Friday, following which, the police arrested the accused. The girl has been taken to Somwarpet Government Hospital for medical examination.
