The Koppa taluk has incurred a loss of Rs 14 crore owing to the heavy rainfall that lashed the taluk.
Horticulture Department Assistant Director Thotaiah informed KDP meeting that arecanut, cardamom, chillies grown in 12,000 acres of land have been destroyed incurring a loss of Rs 5 crore. PWD and Zilla Panchayat have incurred a loss to the tune of Rs 8 crore following damages to roads, bridges, government buildings and drains.
According to reports from the agriculture department, most of the seedlings grown in the fields have been destroyed and owing to the sands in the field, farmers are not able to cultivate in the field, thus incurring loss of Rs one crore.
Women and Child Welfare department report states that 281 women’s Self-Help Groups have been constituted in the taluk with monthly savings of Rs 2.17 lakh.
