Quilts, washing machine, mattresses, kitchen containers, lofts...these were some of the places at the residence of Dr Yogiraj Sharma, Director of Health Services of the Madhya Pradesh government, from where currency notes to the tune of Rs 1.75 crore were seized by income tax sleuths in a search and seizure action. The action began on Friday and continued till Sunday forenoon.
In addition, foreign currency worth Rs 6 lakh and documents showing the high-profile doctor to be the owner of property worth Rs 75 crore were also seized.
The IT department will hold a press briefing on Monday regarding “the biggest-ever seizure of cash in Madhya Pradesh,” an official said.
A currency note counting machine was also found in the raid, along with keys to 15 lockers in different banks of the city.
Simultaneous raids were conducted at 22 other places in the city, Indore, Chennai and Kolkata at the residences and business establishments of close associates of Dr Sharma.
