The aim of primary education should not be confined only to increasing the literacy rate, but to make children competent enough to face competition at the international level, former under secretary general of UN Shashi Tharoor said.
Speaking at an interaction programme on “to make India a truly developed nation” organised by Adobe Parikrama Centre for Learning in Bangalore, he said, children should be trained in such a way that they should be able to compete with anybody across the world. It is essential because children are the future of the country, he added.
“It is not enough only if a child is taught how to read and write. She or he should be made competent enough to face the world,” he stated.
If a child gets educated, the entire family will become secure. Moreover, the family will get uplifted economically and socially, he added.
