Beary’s Welfare Association has invited litterateurs Dr M Chidananda Murthy, Dr G S Shivarudrappa and Prof G S Siddalingaiah for a open house debate on the history, literary and cultural heritage of the language, said a release.
This follows the opposition of Dr M Chidananda Murthy to the suggestion of Kannada and Culture Minister H S Mahadeva Prasad to constitute a Beary Sahitya Academy.
B M Farookh, President of the association has said that the Beary language is being spoken by more than 15 lakh people. Dr Chidanananda Murthy was silent, when other languages were accorded with sahitya academy status, he added. The Beary Association has also said that the Banjara language should not be discriminated against but given an academy status.
