She holds double Doctorate degrees – in music and another in Journalism – and is also editor of “Samudhra” a monthly magazine from Chennai.
Dr Radha Chose the soulful composition Nanuu Brova Lalitha and rendered with full feeling. Of course the piece de resistance was Yethavunara – the celebrated keertana of saint Tyagaraja. The effusion of well knit Sangathies lent a convincing imagery of the melody. With equal stress on Matu and Dhatu what she sings verily surges out of her very being, which makes her concert an effective and impactful one. S Chandran accompanied on Violin and Radha’s husband Mudhra Bhaskar supported on Mridanga and Sukanya Ramagopal was in charge of Ghata.
Speed mars the melody
The Venugopala Krishna Swamy Temple has organised from (September 3 to 20) cultural programmes at its premises in Malleswaram, in connection with the Gokulashtami. U Rajesh, who gave a Mandolin recital here on Friday is not a stranger to Bangalore, though he is not as popular as his brother U Srinivas. In his willingness to entertain the listeners, he is tempted by the middle to raise the tempo. For instance Manavinala Kincha was with a fast Swaraprastara. But one felt that a slightly slower tempo would have invested it with greater grandeur. The Hindola was pleasing. But the Krithi Niravadisukhada was in jet speed, which appeared garbled by heavy vibrations.
Vasudevayani with spacious exposition was followed by a dazzling array of Swara. Senior instrumentalist C N Chandrashekhar put on a competent show while young Guruprasanna accompanied him on the Khanjari. But N Ramakrishna appeared over enthusiastic and his Mridanga offered rumbustious rhythmic ramifications which marred the melody of the music. After the Thani few well known devotionals like – Karedare Barabarade, Krishna Nee Begane Baro, Venkatachala Nilayam – followed, which had popular appeal.
Nirantara
Ananya chose less known compositions of Mysore Vasudevachar for this month’s Nirantara series, on Saturday. The artiste Arundhathi Krishnan is studying for B.Sc, at Chennai, and her parents are residents of Bangalore. Currently she is studying under her aunt Soundaram Krishnan and has won prizes also in few competitions in both Bangalore and Chennai.
Compositions of Mysore Vasudevachar, one of the prominent composer of post Tyagaraja period, are quiet popular all over. Some of the less known compositions of Vasudevachar was rendered by Arundhathi, which she has learnt from S Rajaram, senior Vidwan. he Pahimam Ksheerasaagara was more impressive for all its subtleties of Nerval and Swara passages. Ne Pilachina and Ramabhi Rama – revived memories of a bygone era. With her good voice and lively presentation Arundathi earned the respect of the audience and her career is worth watching. Another two young instrumentalists Mathur Srinidhi and R. Raghunath gave competent support on Violin and Mridanga, respectively.
