They also arrested four persons in this connection. They are: Prakash (27), Sulaiman (41), Khalid (20) and Mansur (22). Two other accused, Kishore and Mohammad Nasir, are absconding, Police Commissioner N Achutha Rao told reporters on Monday.
Police conducted raids in old Burma Bazaar, New Hong Kong Bazaar and Bajaj Complex.
The accused had misled customers by convincing them that the handsets were N-73 and N-95 series of Nokia company and offered them at a lower price. The fake handsets were perfect prototypes of the original and contained the genuine software of the company, he added.
Joint Commissioner (Crime) Gopal B Hosur said the handsets were manufactured outside India, may be in China, as some of them had Chinese letters imprinted on them. The four had sold them for Rs 8,000 to 9,000, whereas the price of genuine handsets range from Rs 25,000 and Rs 27,000.
