The residents of Mekanagudde staged a protest outside Mudigere Taluk office on Monday. Western Ghats Natural Calamities Victims Committee had call for a serial protest and as a part of this serial protest, a protest was staged on Monday at Mudigere demanding for crop insurance and appropriate compensation to the crop loss that occurred in the taluk.
Western ghats from past few years has been receiving excess rainfall due to which the farmers in the region are facing grave problem of crop loss. While on one hand the bank loans are shooting up many folds, the government has not given any compensation or insurance for crop loss. The committee staged protest demanding for the same. Women and children in large numbers participated in the protest.
Former Minister B B Ningaiah, Taluk JD(S) president Umapathi, Taluk Panchayat Scoial Justice standing committee president P G Manjaiah visited the protestors and interacted with them and assured them that they would bring their demands to the notice of the government.
On Tuesday the protest will be carried forth by Guttihalli and Mularahalli villagers.
