The regional finals of Tata Crucible - the business quiz 2007 on September 1 at Nimhans Convention Hall, Hosur Road beginning 4 pm, will witness a new concept in quizzing — Pyramid quizzing.
“The concept of Pyramid Quizzing was launched during the campus edition of the quiz in February 2007 and was received very well by all the contestants”, says Giri ‘Pickbrain’ Balasubramanium, the quizmaster.
Inspired by corporate world
“The concept is developed along the pyramidal corporate world we live in and to experience how life gets difficult and demanding as one climbs the pyramid. The new format of the quiz delivers the message, that growth and success over time requires over time requires one to be agile, quick and most importantly consistent”, he explains.
The quiz uses the pyramid concept top test: speed of thought, agility of the mind (ability to work solutions) and width of knowledge. The degree of difficulty in the quiz would be graded as well.
“Just as salaries increase in the corporate world as you rise higher in the hierarchy, the value (points) of a question increases as the teams progresses along the pyramid. For level one (entry level in the corporate world) the value of a question is 5 points, level two (10 points) and level three (15 points).
Explains Giri, “At level one there are 18 topics such as advertising, banking, sports, entertainment and anything with a business angle to it. At level two there are 12 topics and the contestants can choose their topics. At Level 3 questions become difficult where three clues as given and participants are tested how fast (speed of thought) they can answer.”
The quiz covers a wide canvas of subjects from business houses to brands, people to products, from business history to fundamentals, from creators of wealth to architects of industries.
The quiz began in 2004 in eight cities as a part of the Tata centenary year. This is the fourth edition of the quiz and is being organised in 12 cities across the country—Chennai, Hyderabad, New Delhi, Chandigarh, Kochi, Kolkata, Bhubaneshwar, Bangalore, Pune, Indore, Ahmedabad and Mumbai.
