Designed from inception for the most demanding datacenters, the new processor will help global OEMs and system builders to deliver breakthrough capabilities to customers by escalating perfomance-per- watt emphasis, the company said.
Briefing reporters here, AMD Director (Worldwide Commercial Channel Sales & Marketing) Michael O’Brien said, “The new processor is the brain child of our innovation which lay due consideration to most challenging business requirements. It includes energy efficiency with a 50 per cent integer and floating point perfomance, enhanced virtualisation perfomance and investment protection.”
For desktops soon
With the same benefits of this innovative technology, the processor will also be launched in the desktop market in December 2007, Mr O’Brien said. AMD India Vice President & Managing Director Alok Ohrie said that the company will follow the global strategy path for marketing in India also.
“The new processor will faciliate the efficiency of datacenters, business enterprises and for sectors like telecom, education and research, PSU, media and animation etc.” AMD claims to have received good response from global original equipment manufacturers and system building partners. “They are highly positive, and as the first step of Indian strategy, we will carry out awareness programes to our customers through our OEMs,” Mr Ohrie said.
WE CAN MATCH INTEL: RUIZ
San Francisco,reuters: Chief Executive Hector Ruiz, on Tuesday, said the new processor would strengthen AMD’s position in the server market, a key battling ground with rival Intel.
“The value that Barcelona offers is phenomenal and I feel we have a pricing leadership position in terms of value,” Mr Ruiz told Reuters in an interview. “The mix of products will obviously affect our financial performance positively.”
“We are not in the business just for the status quo. We have invested and been rewarded with a bigger share as we perform. But we are never satisfied,” he said.
