To help domestic Silicon Valley upgrade its urban transport infrastructure, the Centre has sanctioned establishment of seven Traffic Transit Management Centres in Bangalore of the 45 proposed across Karnataka.
At a meeting in Delhi on August 17, the Central Sanctioning and Monitoring Committee under JNNURM, approved building of seven TTMC projects, for an outlay of Rs 256 crore, state Minister for Transport N Cheluvaraya Swamy told reporters here.
"Karnataka is the first state in India to get funds for upgrading its urban transport infrastructure," he said.
The newly approved TTMCs would be at Banashankari, Vijayanagar, Koramangala, Shantinagar, ITPL, Bannerghatta and Kengeri. Work on Jayanagar is already on, Swamy added.
Each TTMC, besides being a transit point, would have a bus terminal and provide public amenities amenities and maintenance of buses .
These TTMCs would help to resolve traffic congestion and air pollution as well as provide parking space for 500 cars and 250 two wheelers with a view to encourage a nodal shift from private to public transport, the minister said.
The Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation has formulated the Vision Plan with an outlay of Rs 3,000 crore to be implemented in the next five years to focus on development of urban transport infrastructures, he said.
