Spate of students committing suicide, due to poor performance in exams is on the rise. A 15-year-old girl studying in 10th standard took her life on Monday evening.
Ironically, Swetha a student of Clooney Convent High School in Malleswaram took this extreme step on ‘World Suicide Prevention Day’.
According to the police, the results of a class test were given on Monday. Swetha, a resident of Milk Colony, Rajajinagar II Stage had scored low marks in Mathematics. On reaching home, she was reportedly scolded by her mother.
Swetha, who was depressed, went to the first floor of her house and locked herself. When she did not come downstairs for a long time, the family members grew suspicious and were shocked to find her hanging from the ceiling fan.
Immediately, family members and neighbours rushed her to a nearby private hospital, where she was declared dead.
“ Swetha was a very quite and reserved girl. We hardly saw her except for her going and coming back from school,” said the shocked neighbours. Swetha’s parents were inconsolable.
The body was taken to her family’s home town, Kunigal, for cremation. Following Swetha’s death, the school declared a holiday on Tuesday. A complaint has been registered at Subramanyanagar police station.
