Traffic Transit Management Centres (TTMCs) will soon be a reality in Bangalore city.
The Centre has recently cleared eight TTMCs’ proposals under Jawaharlal National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM), and BMTC will commence the construction by the end of this month, Transport Minister N Chaluvarayaswamy said on Tuesday.
TTMCs are modern traffic transit terminus, which integrates other modes of transports -- city bus, city taxi, Metro and others. It also provides ‘park and ride’ facility. “Besides, a total of 29 services like ATMs, bill payment kiosks, post office service and others will be made available at TTMCs,” the Minister said.
Each TTMC will have a provision to park a minimum of 500 four-wheelers and 250 two-wheelers.
BMTC has plans to establish ‘grid routes’ with dedicated lanes, connecting these TTMCs with each other. Hitech Volvo buses will be plied on these routes, for effective and quick transportation, he added.
Eight TTMCs are going to come up at Jayanagar, Banashankari, Vijayanagar, Koramangala, Shantinagar, ITPL, Bannerghatta and Kengeri.
These eight TTMCs are part of 40 that BBMTC has proposed to be taken up under JNNURM, the minister said.
Eight TTMCs are estimated to cost Rs 247 crore. The Government of India will share 38 per cent of the cost, while Government of Karnataka and BMTC will share 15 per cent and 50 per cent of the cost respectively.
