'Former mayors not to contest local body polls'

District Youth Congress President Bondala Jagannath Shetty said that he will welcome KPCC’s direction to urge the former Mayors not to contest in the forthcoming elections.

Addressing a press meet here on Tuesday, he said if the DCC fails to follow this guideline, Youth Congress will put forth the demand while finalising the candidates.  He said as many as 21 youth Congress workers from Mangalore Block (North), Mangalore Block (South) and Surathkal block have expressed their desire to contest in the MCC election. The process of registering members to the Congress party will commence after October 2 in the district, he added.

KPCC district-in-Charge office-bearer Padma Nayak said a 10-member booth level committees have been formed. They will be actively involved in the election process. She said KPCC President Mallikharjuna Kharge will be urged to give 35 per cent of the tickets to the Youth Congress members.
