Unable to repay the bank loan, a farmer committed suicide at Shiriyara village in Udupi district in the wee hours on Tuesday. The deceased has been identified as Manna Ganiga (65), a resident of Shiriyara village.
According to the police, Ganiga owns four to five acres of land and has arecanut plantation. As Ganiga could not repay the huge loan obtained from banks and co-operative socities, he took the extreme step by hanging at his pumphouse when his family members were fast asleep. He is survived by wife, three daughters and a son. farmer committing suicide unable to repay bank loan is one of the few cases reported in Udupi. Kota police have registered a case.
