Tur growers seek survey of crop loss
DH News Service, Gulbarga:
Karnataka State Tur (Red Gram) Growers' Association has urged the district administration to conduct an immediate survey of loss of crops due to recent incessant rain in the district in general and Chittapaur taluk in particular.

A 10-member team of the association led by its State president Basavaraj Ingin is currently touring Chittapur taluk to witness the damage caused by rain to moong and udad crops.

“The twin pulse crops were about to be harvested but heavy rain has caused total loss to crops. Farmers have suffered heavily. The administration should take immediate steps for assessing the damage and payment of compensation at the earliest,’’ Ingin said.

Villages visited
The team visited Gundagurti, Tengli, Malkud, Dandoti, Madbul, and Belagumpi villages to survey the effect of rain on crops. The association has urged the district administration and the State government to arrange for payment of crop insurance money.

In many villages hundreds of hectares of fields were waterlogged and it was the right time for the authorities to assess the damage, Ingin added.

According to Ingin, in several places standing tur crop was damaged. The agriculture department must dispatch a team to assess the loss, he said.
