Given the increasing number of educational institutions and newer residents to Jayanagar, it’s no surprise that the locality has a proliferation of showrooms stacking western clothes. Leher Spencer, the two-month-old store, rises above the clutter. It’s USP lies in its pricing — wrinkle-free formal trousers from Rs 450 and unisex T-shirts beginning at Rs 150.
The store may be new but its owners, Muntassir Khan, Musheer Khan and Zubair Khan forayed into the market 11 years ago.
The siblings retailed western wear for men and women from a cubbyhole operation for sometime in Jayanagar. Though they had a small clientele, a great deal of conviction coupled with luck helped the business grow.
Four years ago, it took the shape of a store called Leher Casual.
This gave them a focus, as they began to retail in western casual, formal and party wear for men and women. It expanded to include a second outlet, Leher Spencer — a 2,000 sq ft store in the vicinity.
“We have a networking system with dealers in Mumbai, whose clothes represent current trends in Hong Kong. Right now, semi-formal tops and shirts are in vogue as they offer the flexibility of office wear and evening wear,” they explain.
These clothes can be matched with unisex boot-cut trousers. Along with this, is a generous selection of trousers, ranging from stretch cotton and linen to corduroy and denim, with mid-waists being popular. The section comprising formal knee-length corduroy jackets is interesting and is particularly suited for overseas travel, while denim jackets are apt for the Indian weather.
Cotton-tussar cargos, not easily found everywhere, are also up on the racks. An accessory section beckons, with its assortment of ties, belts, socks and footwear for women.
