The wife of a Janta Dal (U) MLA Dhananjay Singh was found dead in mysterious circumstances in Lucknow on Wednesday. Singh is an MLA from Rari in Jaunpur.

Meenakshi Singh’s body was discovered inside her room at the MLA’s residence in the posh Gomtinagar area on Wednesday morning. Her head was slumped on the foot of the bed while the rest of her was by the side of the bed in sitting position. A dupatta was found tied to the fan in the room.

IG Lucknow Zone A K Jain has expressed doubts over the death. “The neck bore injury marks. There was no rope found in the room to suggest a suicide bid. It is certainly strange how a young woman could suddenly die,” he said.

The body has been sent for postmortem examination.
