The Mangalore police have arrested a group of inter-district dacoits at Bappanadu near Mulki on Thursday.
Acting on a tip off that the dacoits numbering five were arriving in a Maruthi car, Mangalore Rural Circle Inspector Jayanth V Shetty, Mulki PSI Sudarshan M and Mangalore Rural PSI Prakash K stopped the car when the driver fled sped away. When the car was chased and stopped, all the five started to run. However, the policemen succeeded in nabbing them. The arrested are Sayyed Atheeq Imran (24) from Shimoga, B K Mahesh (27) from Somwarpet (Kodagu), Umesh Naik (22) from Kadur, Ibrahim alias Thangu (31) from N R Pura and H R Charan (20) from Mudigere (all three from Chikmagalur).
While Imran is an accused in a murder case, all others are involved in dacoity cases in different districts including Uttara Kannada, Belgaum, Shimoga, Chikmagalur.
The car is said to have been stolen from Shimoga two days ago.
Police have seized two swords, three iron rods and about half kg chilli powder from them. Mulki police have registered a case.

Pedestrian killed
A pedestrian was killed after a two-wheeler rider knocked him down at B.C Road on Wednesday.
The deceased has been identified as Abdul Khader, a resident of Bantwal.
Though Mr Khader was rushed to the hospital, he could not be survived. Bantwal police have registered a case. Further investigations are on.
