A sum of over Rs 7 crore has been spent for development of Tourism in Kodagu district alone, said Department of Tourism Secretary I M Vittalmurthy.
Addressing the reporters after inaugurating ‘Kadkani,’ a new resort built at Ammati Ontiyangadi near Kodagu on Thursday, Mr Vittalmurthy said that in a couple of months the department will take up the task of placing indication boards of various famous tourist spots of the district.
“Home stay system has already been started in the district, for the implementation of which a committee has been formed. Licenses are being provided to these Home Stays,” he said.
He added that Kodagu district has ample opportunity for further development of Tourism sector from traditional point of view in an environment friendly way. “By propogating and showcasing the rich tradition of Kodava land, their language, costumes, culture, this land can attract more tourists,” he added.
With the development of tourism, he opined that the local youth will be provided with ample employment opportunities too.
He informed that a site has already been finalised to accomodate Kodava Paramparika Kendra. The construction works of the same will commence after elections.
