GULBARGA AT A GLANCE

Contest for students
District Science Centre in collaboration with Karnataka State Pollution Control Board is organising  painting and speech contests for students in Gulbarga on the occasion of World Ozone Day.

Painting contest will be held on ‘Depletion of ozone layer effect on global climate’ on September 16 at 10.45 am.
A science lecture on the same subject will be held on September 17 at 2.15 pm. An open house quiz on ‘Ozone layer and our earth’s climate’ will follow at 3.15 pm. Students can take part in any contest.

Review of pensions
The State government has constituted a monthly pension review committee to ascertain the claims of beneficiaries of persons drawing old age pension, pension of physically challenged and widow pension. The committee will review people availing these pensions in Gulbarga from September 12 to 15. Beneficiaries of these pension schemes have been asked to appear before the committee to prove that they are eligible for pensions.
The committee will review pension claims wardwise in selected schools.

Admission date extended
Gulbarga University has extended the last date for admission to September 17 for the first semester of different courses in its affiliated colleges. The last date has been extended to facilitate students who have passed PUC supplementary examinations to take admission for degree courses. Interested students have been asked to avail the opportunity by paying a fine of Rs 200. An official release said that there would not be any further extension of date for admission.

Students for state sports
Students of NV Society’s English Medium School of Gulbarga have been selected to participate at the state-level sports meet in Chess and Shuttle Badminton. Ajit Potdar, Srinidhi Joshi, Sagar, Avinash and Srinidhi Srimant have been selected to participate in Chess and Pooja Pawar has been selected to participate in Shuttle Badminton.
