The government submission was in relation to the Sethusamudram project which is opposed by the saffron party.
The RSS has thrown its full  weight behind the BJP in opposing the canal project  off Tamil Nadu coast in Palk strait.

Advani left a message at the PMO — while Manmohan Singh was away for a meeting with his visiting Bulgarian counterpart—  conveying his objections over the Government’s affidavit.

The BJP earlier in the day drew a parallel between the row over the Sethusamudram shipping canal project and its Ram temple movement, saying it found similarity in the ruling Congress’ response to the saffron objections in both the cases.

“I see a comparison in terms of the government’s response to both issues,” said BJP spokesman Ravi Shankar Prasad, whose party colleague Vijay Kumar Malhotra accused the Centre of blasphemy.

New Delhi, PTI: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday accused the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government of “blasphemy” by telling the Supreme Court that there was no historical evidence to establish the existence of Lord Rama or the other characters in Ramayana.

“This is sheer blasphemy,” senior BJP leader Vijay Kumar Malhotra said reacting to an affidavit filed by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) rejecting the claim of the existence of the “Ramsetu” or Adam’s bridge in the Sethusamudram project area.

“It’s an insult to the Hindu faith. We also wonder why the Prime Minister and Congress chief Sonia Gandhi have been going for the Dussehra festival if their government does not believe in Lord Rama’s existence,” he said.
