Woods skips PGA Grand Slam
World No 1 Tiger Woods has pulled out of the PGA Grand Slam of Golf in October so he can spend more time with his wife and new baby daughter, Sam Alexis.
“It’s been a long year. And, given some new, personal obligations, it is very important that I take some extended time off and spend it with my family,” said Woods. Jim Furyk will replace Woods.
Boycott voted  Britain’s best
The outspoken cricket commentator Geoffrey Boycott was voted as Britain’s favourite cricket commentator by the Wisden Cricketer magazine on Thursday, reports UNI from London.
The former England cricketer beat TMS colleague Jonathan Agnew in the poll among the readers of the magazine which is by far the best known reference book concerned with the game.
Boycott was polled first among 57 percent of readers, with Agnew placed first by 53 percent while Sky Sports David Lloyd got the third position.
The fourth place was taken by Michael Atherton, dubbed as “the most natural successor to Richie Benaud” and Sky Sports Michael Holding was fifth backed by a ‘voice of pure honey’.
Rafique likely to join ICL
Ace Bangladeshi spinner Mohammad Rafique has said he is likely to join a multi-million-dollar breakaway Indian Cricket League (ICL) after completing 100 Test wickets, reports AFP from Dhaka.
“I’ve got an offer to play in the ICL through Mohammad Yousuf of Pakistan,” the 37-year-old said on Thursday.
“But first I want to take six more wickets to join the 100-wicket club in Test cricket. Then I may join the ICL, which I heard is very lucrative.”
Rafique is Bangladesh’s leading wicket-taker with 94 scalps in 31 Tests.
The ICL, which plans to hold Twenty20 tournaments between city teams for the next three years, has already announced the signing of seven international stars and 44 Indian first-class cricketers.
India outclass Cambodia
The Hutch Indian rugby team pounded Cambodia 36-5 in the final of the Bowl category on the final day of the Asian Rugby 7s which concluded in Kandy, Sri Lanka, on Thursday, reports UNI from Mumbai.
Amit Lochab set India on the winning path with two tries, while captain Nasser Hussain, Puneet Krishnamoorthy and Pritom Roy chipped in with a try each. Pritom Roy also had one conversion to his name, while Sujai Lama got his name on the scoring list with one conversion to round off the tally.
Brazil prevail  over Mexico
Kaka’s goal in the 80th minute off a poor clearance by Mexican captain Rafael Marquez helped Brazil to a 3-1 victory before a Gillette stadium crowd of yellow-clad Brazil fans, reports AP from Foxborough, US.
The hard-fought victory was Brazil’s first over Mexico in more than three years. The two ejections, including Brazil coach Dunga, and five yellow cards were proof that the teams treated the game as the latest in a rivalry rather than the friendly it was.
