She was crowned Miss Beauty Queen 2002 at a beauty pageant held at the state-level in Uttar Pradesh. She wore this crown while she was still in her 12th standard. This was enough reason for her friends to “flatter” her and push her into movies. She has already acted in four Telugu films – Ala, Maa Iddiri Madhya, Prema and Attili Satibabu LKG and is now all set to test the waters in Kannada cinema with Nali Naliyuta. Meet Vidisha, the biotech graduate girl from Varanasi, who is blessed with pleasing looks and a good height.
Soon after winning the beauty crown, Vidisha got an opportunity to model for some well-known brands such as Samsung mobile and ICICI apart from doing a few small ones. This was enough reason for her to move to Mumbai.
But, it was her cameraman friend who introduced her into films. Besides, she had already dabbled in theatre, which made it easier to act in films.
Says she, “I believe that I am blessed with a typical Indian look and I became interested to work in South Indian films although I was waiting to grab some Hindi film offers.”
How did she cope with Telugu without understanding a word of it? Says Vidisha, “In my second Telugu film I slap the hero thus getting to play the “hero” and not the heroine. I have managed to grasp Telugu quickly and I am continuing to learn Telugu and Kannada quickly to continue working in the South. I have also learnt a bit of dance to get into films. With a glint of hope in my eyes to achieve the best, I am just exploring acting as a career option.”
What is it that she likes and dislikes about the South? Says she, “I just can’t get myself to eat the South Indian food. I simply cannot eat this food daily. But, yes, its difficult to survive with or without having to taste the South Indian food that is served to us here. I don’t like foodstuffs made of tamarind and coconut, which is added to the staple food here. But, South Indians are good human beings and they have immense respect for women.”
What is her role in her first Kannada movie Nali Naliyuta opposite Aniruddha? Says Vidisha, “I play a Christian girl living in a hostel away from her father. I am a man hater and not a man eater (laughs) in the movie. I meet a guy who changes my outlook towards life.”
