Shiv Shankar Prasad Chowrasia kept himself in contention with a flawless four-under 67 that pegged him at tied fourth at the midway stage of the inaugural Midea China Classic here on Friday.
Chowrasia, the best placed Indian, is four shots behind Thai stalwart Thaworn Wiratchant, who was back on familiar ground after a superb eight-under 63. Chowrasia was second overnight with a first round of six-under 65.
Fellow Kolkata pro Rahil Gangjee, sixth overnight with five-under 66, shot a second round of 68 and was lying eight-under 134. Among his compatriots, Gurbaaz Mann (65) moved to tied 33rd at four-under 138 and Arjun Singh (71) totalled two-under 140 to be tied 53rd.
It was, however, end of all roads for Harmeet Kahlon (144), Digvijay Singh (145), Gaurav Ghei (145) and Rahul Ganapathy (146) who missed the halfway cut.Chowrasia, lying 60th on the Money List, had a fine day with the putter as he slotted four birdies against no bogeys. He had three birdies on front nine and one more on back nine in his round. Gangjee had five birdies against two bogeys in his 68.
Thaworn, an eight-time winner on the Asian Tour, felt right at home.
