Chitravathi dam in full swing brings cheers
DH News Service, Bagepalli:
The Chitravathi dam here was full to it brim much to the relief of the residents of the taluk, after heavy rains lashed out in Bagepalli on Saturday.

Being an auspicious day of Ganesha Cathurthi, the people in the taluk rejoiced the situation, considering it as a boon by the nature on the day of the fest.
Thousands of people had been awaiting the dam to be full after many tanks had breached in Mittemari area.
However, there are many reasons for the people in and around the Bagepalli and Gudibande taluks to await for the dam to brim over.
In the taluks of Bagepalli and Gudibande, flouride-free drinking water is a sort of a dream come true, as many young ones soon after their birth, suffer from various health related problems such as dental problems, pains in legs and hands, which has resulted people to think that being born in these taluks itself is a great curse.
Dream come true
Meanwhile, the dam was supposed to supply drinking water to 104 villages in and around Gudibande and other villages.
It is through this dam that flouride-free drinking water is supplied to Gudibande and Bagepalli taluks through Jack wells.
So if the dam is full to its brim, then it is like dream come true to the people staying in and around the the region.
Demand for dam
There was a great support from the public  too for  the construction of Chitravathi dam then.
Many people had actually fought very hard for the completion of Chitravathi dam bearing all the  sufferings, hardships. Some were also imprisoned during the fight.
Former MLA ‘s efforts
However former Member of Legislative Assembly  Srirama Reddy’s contribution in this regard is memorable. He had tried hard for the construction of the dam and had took up Satyagraha for over 60 days.
Mr Srirama Reddy had also brought the matter to the notice of then Minister N Sampangi till the level of the President exhibiting the physically challenged children who were effected due to flouride mixed drinking water.
It was a time to recall all those days of fight for the construction of dam. On Saturday, it was a real joy for the people to see the dam brim to its full.
One could see the glitter in the eyes of the people which said that for a year no problem of drinking water could bring them down. The extra water flowed to Bukkapatna lake of Andhra Pradesh.
Bagina offered
Soon after the Chitravathi dam was full to its brim, MLA G V Srirama Reddy’ s mother offered Bagina and performed pooja.
Tahsildar Roopashri was also present during the offering of Bagina.
Also present on the occasion were Town Municipal Corporation Chief Officer A V Anjinappa, Accountant B A Abdul Wajid and others.
