ZP elections:
JD(S)-BJP pact likely to continue
DH News Service, Tumkur:

The second term election for president and vice president of the Tumkur Zilla Panchayat will be conducted on Monday. While the president’s  post has been reserved for  BCM(A) candidate, the post of the vice president will be elected from the general class.
There are a total os  57  seats  in the  Tumkur  Zilla  Panchayat. Both the  Congress and the  JD(S) have a 27  seats each while the  BJP has  3 members.
For the  last 20 months the JD(S) has  held power in the Zilla  Panchayat with the  support of the three members from the BJP.
The political observers say that chances of history  repeating  itself is very likely.
The deciding factor for the election of the President and the vice  president- the BJP party- is fully expected to  support the  JD(S)’s bid to power.
So unless the  BJP  has a last minute  change of heart,it should be an  easy chance for JD(S) to  assume power in the ZL for the  second term  as  well.
It is only if these  political calculations go  awry then the congress has a remote chance of assuming power at the ZP.
The Congress is expected to nominate Kortgere Block Congress president and Holavanhalli  ZP member Krishan Murthy’s name for the post of president while the name of Prabhakar, ZP member from Kadaba is doing the rounds  for  the post of vice president.
Among the names being thrown  up by the  JD(S) include Abraham, Gubbi  Krishnamurthy, Ranagaswamy and Krishanappa. When this copy was filed the JD(S) leadership had  still not announced its  list of  candidates. Ananda Ravi is  expected to be  announced for the post of  vice president by the  JD(S).
G  Raghunath from JD(S) had been the president  of the ZP for the  last  20  months and changed changed during the  fag  end  of three to Narasimhappa for the  first  term.
This  was  according the according to the deal  agreed upon by the  party internally, where Ranghunath has  agreed to hand over the  post to narasimhappa for the last three months of the  term.
