Custodian Ravindran was in fine form as a spirited Postal held favourites Hindustan Aeronautic Sports Club to a goalless draw in the BDFA Super Division football league at the Bangalore Football Stadium here on Sunday.
HASC, who enjoyed most of the possession, however, couldn’t find a goal with the credit going mostly to the Postal goalie. The domination from the part of Aircraftmen was clear and their goalkeeper Gumpe Rime was tested only once in the match. Rime anticipated a through pass from Aravind, before advancing to collect the ball from the foot of Srinivasa. That was all he had to do in the entire match.
The slippery ground conditions were pegged the favourites back on the day but still, they could have found the target in the 39th minute. Karthigeyan’s cross from the left wing was controlled beautifully on the chest by Rajendra Prasad but his left-footer from close range was saved brilliantly, diving to his left by Ravindran. Four minutes later, Ravindran got his finger tips to a Kuttimani header, off a cross from skipper Xavier Vijayakumar on the right. It started to rain just before the start of the second period, causing further damage to the ground and spoiling free flow of the match.
In the ‘A’ Division tie, Bharath Heavy Electricals Limited (EPD) blanked Sri Gajanana 6-0. Dhoni found the target thrice (77th, 82nd, 85th) while Shoban (81st, 90th) scored a brace and Ramesh (78th) found the target once.
Meanwhile, the BDFA committee has decided to suspend all the matches from September 17 to 19 because of the poor ground condition. These matches will be played at a later date.
