Chandhok tops in GP2 at Belgium
India's Karun Chandhok notched his first victory in the GP2 series in the second race at the Spa-Francochamps circuit on Sunday, agencies report.
Starting off the front row in front of over 100,000 people Karun passed Andy Soucek in a bold move around the outside to take the lead just five laps from the end to take the first win for an Indian at a Formula 1 race weekend.
After the race, Karun reflected "It's been a really emotional day for many reasons.
“I was really happy obviously but when the Indian National anthem started playing I must admit I had tears in my eyes.
“It was then that I realised that it was the first time the Indian anthem had been played at a Formula 1 weekend and to be the first person in over a billion to have that feeling was something unreal.”
