An international seminar on ‘Sustainable Eco-Initiatives in Tourism and Hospitality’, was organised by Acharya Institute of Management and Sciences in association with ITC-The Windsor on Monday.
Tourism Secretary I M Vittalamurthy on the occasion said that tourism and hospitality industry are growing at a fast pace.
He emphasised the need to take care of heritage destinations, eco-destinations. Also, he stressed on the need for public private partnership, to maintain these national assets and resources.
Vice Dean of Cornell-Nanyang Institute of Hospitality Management, Singapore, Dr Russell Smith said the need of the hour was a ‘new environmental policy’, which includes corporate social responsibility.
He discussed various methods adopted by international organisations to reduce carbon-dioxide emissions and steps taken by the aviation industry in the West on a ‘Go green’ campaign to support environmental projects.
He said that the international organisations were recognising the hotel industry with bench marking of ‘Energy Smart Hotels’, characterised by their physical features, operational characteristics and energy saving techniques.
