The Board of Approval (BOA) of Special Economic Zones (SEZs), on Tuesday, accorded formal approval to 10 SEZ projects including three Mukesh Ambani-promoted IT zones in Navi Mumbai and one SEZ project in engineering sector in Karnataka.
The BOA—the single window clearing agency for SEZ-- also gave in-principle approvals to two projects.
The BOA at its meeting chaired by Commerce Secretary G K Pillai approved the proposal of Quest Machining & Manufacturing Limited to set up a SEZ in the Precision Engineering Products sector over an area of 103.7209 hectares. The BOA at the meeting considered 19 proposals.” Decision on four SEZ proposals in UP, including DLF and Unitech Hi-tech, have been deferred because they do not have the possession of land,” Mr Pillai told reporters after the meeting.
He said once the promoters of these proposals get possession of land these would be cleared. The other prominent SEZ project that received approval was of Tata Consultancy Services Limited in IT/ITES sector in Gujarat. The BOA also gave in-principle approval to the SEZ proposal of Jindal Worldwide (JWL) in Gujarat and to another one in Maharashtra by Arshhiya Technologies spreading over 68 hectares.
