Speaking at a function, where he was installed as the patron of the Bharat Scouts and Guides, Karnataka, Mr Thakur said that a training centre which would be on the lines of the National Training Centre of Bharat Scouts and Guides at Pachmarhi in Madhya Pradesh should be established in the city.
“ Over the years the National Training Centre of Bharat Scouts and Guides has been instrumental in training a number of youngsters. A similar training centre should be set up down south for which Bangalore is the ideal location,” he said.
He added that he would request the State government for allocation of land and funds for setting up a training centre in the city. “ The Bharat Scouts and Guides has been promoted in this country by stalwarts like Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Dr Rajendra Prasad and many others. It is one of the biggest voluntary youth movement in the world and the younger generation should participate in such a forum which provides them discipline, moral and social values which is on the downside now,” he added.
The Governor who is also the President of the National level Bharat Scouts and Guides said that being a member of the movement has helped him in various spheres of his life.
Former Chief Minister Dharam Singh, Minister for Youth Services and Sports Alkod Hanumanthappa and Minister for Primary and Secondary Education Basavaraj Horatti were present.
